Last night social media, and anyone that talks about basketball was thinking about the ridiculous trade rumours that popped off last night of Rajon Rondo being trading to Dallas or Houston. Now going to either team would make both teams extremely scary, especially the Dallas Mavericks who would have a starting 5 of Tyson Chandler, Dirk Nowitzki, Chandler Parsons, Monta Ellis, and Rajon Rondo.
According to Marc Stein of ESPN:
Sources told ESPN.com that the Celtics and Mavericks have been discussing a swap that would furnish Boston with multiple draft picks — including at least one future first-rounder — as well as blossoming Mavericks center Brandan Wright and other players needed to make the salary-cap math work.
Sources say the Celtics also have been talking to teams such as the Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks about potential Rondo deals?, but that the most advanced discussions so far have been with Dallas.
Rondo is a free agent this summer, which makes it a risk to trade for him right now, because he could leave at the summer. Now sources are saying he may actually want to re-sign with them.
According to Ken Burger of cbsssports.com:
With Celtics president Danny Ainge seriously engaging several teams on Rondo trade scenarios, a league source told CBSSports.com Thursday that the point guard is open to re-signing with at least two of them — the Mavericks and Rockets….
Given Rondo’s looming unrestricted free agency, any deal would have to come with assurances that he’d be willing to re-sign with his new team. While those discussions have yet to take place with agent Bill Duffy since no trade agreement is in place, a person familiar with Rondo’s thinking said the possibility of competing for championships in Dallas or Houston intrigues him.
Rondo has been reluctant to really say anything about the trade rumours, but if he is willing to, the Dallas Mavericks will be in SERIOUS championship talks.
