The Golden State Warriors have no plans to move on from Shaun Livingston, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. The guard has been a huge part of two very successful Warriors teams.
The report by itself may not seem very important. Livingston was clearly one of the most important pieces for GSW. A key reserve, Livingston’s versatility on both ends of the floor helped the Dubs tremendously. That is not to mention he has never missed a midrange jumper in his life.
But it is relevant as it pertains to the Warriors pursuit of Kevin Durant. In order to sign the Thunder star, Golden State would have to move on from some key members of its roster. Livingston would certainly be a candidate for that. Waiving the guard would clear about $2.7M off the books for Golden State, valuable amounts of cash if they are able to sign their top target.
Livingston provides tons of value on the court and it will be difficult to move on from him. The Warriors may move on from other crucial pieces before Livingston and that would not be shocking.
All that being said, everything is on the table if Durant agrees to sign in Golden State. As much as the Warriors may love Shaun Livingston, they would not hesitate to trade him or waive him if it was their best route to getting KD in Oakland.
