The Minnesota Timberwolves are finalizing a buy-out for veteran point guard Andre Miller, according to Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The veteran is reportedly looking to latch onto a playoff contender, hoping to give himself a chance for a championship.
Miller can still be a good option off the bench for a variety of teams. Many playoff teams can use a player who can handle the ball and run offense for second units and it seems likely that one of them will sign Miller to do just that. The Clippers may be at the top of that list with only Austin Rivers and Pablo Prigioni as backup point guard options behind Chris Paul going into the playoffs.
In addition to buying out Miller, the T-Wolves also seem open to the idea of doing the same for Kevin Martin. Wolves’ owner Glen Taylor told the Star Tribune that he is not seeking that option, but would be willing to negotiate should Martin also wish to join a playoff team. Martin’s shooting ability could make him an attractive addition to multiple playoff teams, as well.
The deadline to waive players in order for them to join other teams for the playoffs is March 1st.
