The Oklahoma City Thunder have traded for Denver Nuggets’ shooting guard Randy Foye, according to Chris Dempsey of the Denver Post. According to Ken Berger of CBS Sports, the Thunder will send back DJ Augustin, Steve Novak, and two second round picks.
Foye, a scorer and shooter, had been coveted in trade scenarios by several teams in the league. The 10th year veteran is known mostly as a scorer. However, with a team in the Nuggets that is young and values giving its younger players playing time, Foye has been lost.
The 10th year veteran is currently averaging just six points per game while playing 20 minutes. He is doing so with career low shooting percentages: 35% from the field and 30% from three.
Nevertheless, Foye is a proven shooter, with a career 37% shooting percentage from behind the arc. Oklahoma City needs his shooting to space the floor around the power trio of Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, and Serge Ibaka.
It is unclear what exactly Foye’s role would be in the team. He could be the starter at the shooting guard position but it seems apparent that Billy Donovan prefers starting a defensive guard in Andre Roberson instead. He could also be a scorer off the bench, providing depth and much needed offensive playmaking. Donovan has a tendency to play all-bench lineups so more players who can handle the ball and shoot are much needed.
