Over the weekend The Indiana Pacers suffered a gut punch with the injury to Paul George, but that’s not keeping President Larry Bird down. The Pacers are looking for a short term option for the team and one of the best free agent options left that they can turn to is veteran Small Forward Shawn Marion. It was rumored Marion met in Cleveland with The Cavaliers about a veteran minimum contract which is all the team can offer.
Indiana’s used the full Mid-level exception this off season, but they can use a disabled players exception for Paul George’s injury, which would be about $5 million dollars to work with in contract negotiations if the talks do come to that.
The meeting with Cleveland baffled many around The Dallas area since Marion wanted to be on a roster where he can start and get a pay raise as well. Marion would get both of those things being in Indiana. If Indiana does sign Marion its a very small band aid on the open wound for The Pacers, but it’s a small positive step forward for the team.
