The past two seasons we’ve heard plenty of rumors of Kevin Love planning to bolt from Minnesota, and when he will request a trade. We may be seeing those rumors become a reality sooner than we thought. The Minnesota Timberwolves have discussed multiple trade scenarios with Golden State, Cleveland, and Chicago. Minnesota now has narrowed down The Cavaliers as the only team they’re discussing a trade with According to ESPN’s Marc Stein and Brian Windhorst. That would team Love with All Stars Kyrie Irving and LeBron James to once again form a “Big 3” in The NBA. Earlier this off season Love’s agent stated the power forward would sign an extension with The Cavaliers if LeBron James returned home, and James did just that.
One giveaway that some sort of deal may be close to happening is Kevin Love’s agent advising Love to withdraw from Team USA’s roster. On Tuesday night Anthony Bennett’s Agent Jeff Schwartz (the same agent for Love) advised Bennett to sit out of his Pro-AM game. So clearly something is heating up and could we hear of some sort of terms being agreed to soon?
The player Minnesota covets is this years #1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins. If you’re Cleveland that’s a no brainer Kevin Love for Andrew Wiggins? Yes Wiggins can become a star, but if you’re Cleveland you don’t take that gamble of missing out on a versatile player and a player that’s already developed into a star. Wiggins may have a huge upside there’s no doubt about that, and I think he will be a star one day. Do you really think passing on a player that’s already an all star is the brightest thing though? Didn’t think so. If you are hesitant on trading Wiggins for Love I understand, but Cleveland scrapped their San Antonio Spurs game plan of building through the draft the minute they brought LeBron James back to Cleveland. With that they’re now in championship or bust mode and the only way you get to The NBA Finals would be acquiring Kevin Love.
