The San Antonio Spurs look to be major players in free agency. They have been linked to all of the big names, including Kevin Durant, Mike Conley, Al Horford, and Pau Gasol.
In order to make a splash in the open market, however, San Antonio will need cap space. In an environment where nearly every team has plenty of money to spare, the team could see itself priced out of many second-tier free agents.
But it appears San Antonio will not be hasty in clearing cap space, at least as it pertains to Boris Diaw:
The Spurs could shave $4 million off next season's payroll if they waive Boris Diaw this week, but sources say San Antonio is keeping Diaw.

Boris Diaw has been a major part of the Spurs over the last few seasons. His passing ability and his versatility on both offense and defense are integral parts of the Spurs machine.
Waiving the center only to clear cap space would be a shock. That said, San Antonio has major flaws to fix and does not project to have much cap space to use in free agency. However, San Antonio can lay back and see if it has a shot at any of the major free agents before making moves to dump off players to make room.
