
The Memphis Grizzlies suffered yet another injury on Wednesday when point guard Mario Chalmers suffered a torn achilles. With Chalmers in the final year of his deal, they promptly waived the former Heat guard. As such, the team has an open roster spot and a clear need.
Enter: Ray McCallum.
According to Yahoo’s Shams Charania, the former San Antonio Spurs’ guard is traveling to Memphis on Friday and is likely to sign with the Grizzlies soon thereafter.
Memphis has a multitude of injuries to its roster, including starting point guard Mike Conley. They need all the help they can get to preserve their current standing, desperately hanging onto the 5th seed in the Western Conference.
McCallum is not a massive game-changer, but he has proven in his time in Sacramento and San Antonio that he can be a solid backup point guard, albeit needing some more development. This is a potential signing that could help both parties quite a bit.
