Brandon Jennings made his season debut on Tuesday. The Detroit Pistons’ point guard is coming off an Achilles tear late last season. With the Pistons having just given Reggie Jackson a max contract, Jennings seems like a valuable trade asset for the team. According to the New York Daily News’s Frank Isola, the New York Knicks are one of the teams interested in trading for Jennings:
The Knicks, according to a source, have interest in several point guards including Jennings, who finally returned to the lineup after rupturing his left Achilles tendon nearly 11 months ago.
This news comes on the heels of rumors that the Knicks are interested in signing recently waived guard Tony Wroten. It is becoming more and more apparent that the Knicks are looking to add depth to their backcourt, with potential hope of securing a playoff berth this season. It is unclear how much Jennings could contribute to that after tearing his Achilles, a notoriously difficult injury to come back from. However, he is just 26 years old and had the best season of his career last year before suffering the injury. The Knicks have several good, young backcourt players so it is somewhat strange that they are looking to add more players in those positions. However, Jennings would be the most proven player of that young crop of guards. In fact, at full health, Jennings would probably be the starter for this Knicks team.
