Manu Ginobili will be out four to six weeks, according to San Antonio’s KENS 5. The Spurs’ shooting guard injured his groin in a victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday.
Ginobili has not been a huge part of this loaded Spurs’ team as his age has led to him taking a smaller role than ever. However, he has had crucial moments for the team with flashes to his old self. His experience and passing ability are always useful skills, especially as the postseason draws near.
Nevertheless, the Spurs are good enough to endure that time without Ginobili and likely not miss a beat. The injury will allow Spurs’ coach Greg Popovich to experiment with lineups including other players, such as sophomore Kyle Anderson, in order to find potential playoff contributors, a staple of his coaching.
Meanwhile, San Antonio will likely be extremely cautious with Ginobili’s injury in order to ensure that he is healthy for the playoffs. That is a wise choice as any team hoping to beat the Warriors this season – even one as good as the Spurs – will need plenty of depth at every position.
