Report: Knicks Will Pursue Spurs Point Guard Patty Mills
The New York Knicks have a $3.2 million mid-level exception that will allow them to pursue a free agent, which they would like to be a point guard. They reportedly have their eyes set on San Antonio Spurs back-up point guard Patty Mills. Since Mills opted into his contract last season and was paid just $1.3 million, he is now an unrestricted free agent. According to a source,
New York is definitely a city Mills would want to play in. He has that personality.
The 25-year-old, 6-foot guard was reportedly on the Knicks radar for this summer before his impressive showing in Game 5 of the NBA Finals the other night. Mills made four straight three-pointers and scored 14 third quarter points that helped the Spurs deliver the final knockout blow to the Miami Heat. He finished the playoffs with a 40.5 three-point shooting percentage.
The Knicks and new head coach Derek Fisher are surely looking for more ample pieces for their roster, particularly at a position where they were largely deficient this season. Mills just showed his ability to be a fiery spark plug and glue guy on the biggest stage, and New York’s roster is clearly in need of those kinds of services.
