It’s no secret that the Sacramento Kings have a logjam in their frontcourt. They have multiple young big men in the rotation behind star center DeMarcus Cousins.
Among those young bigs is Willie Cauley-Stein. The sophomore out of Kentucky has had a rough go so far this season. Under new head coach Dave Joerger, Cauley-Stein has only played 14.5 minutes per game. He has also not made the most of those minutes, with per game averages of 4.8 points and 1.8 rebounds.
With the center struggling and so much depth behind him, the Kings may be looking around for some trades.
Following via ESPN’s Marc Stein:
Keep an eye on Kings big man Willie Cauley-Stein. Word is Sacramento is open to moving the second-year big man, who wants more of a role than he has under new Kings coach Dave Joerger.
I don’t blame Cauley-Stein for wanting a bigger role; he is a talented player with potential whom the Kings should strive to develop. I also can’t entirely blame Joerger as WCS has been disappointing so far and the coach is trying to win games.
It’s an interesting situation all around. Many teams will be more than willing to take a gamble on Willie Cauley-Stein. At his peak, he can be a great rim protector and a great diver in the pick and roll. It hasn’t come to fruition just yet and who knows if it ever will in Sacramento.
