Jeff Green has been a controversial figure in the NBA throughout his career. His talent has led to several teams giving him a chance and all of those teams have mostly been disappointed. Despite great stretches where he looks like a top player, Green has been unable to find any sort of consistency.
The Memphis Grizzlies have now seen that first-hand as the small forward goes through arguably the worst season of his career. Now, according to Ronald Tillery of The Commercial Appeal, that frustration has boiled to a point where a prominent member of the team has expressed his disdain for how Green has played:
Jeff hasn’t gotten it done, and he’s shooting very poorly over the last six games. His attitude hasn’t been the best. He’s not playing very well defensively.
And I know of a guy who matters in that locker room that wanted to wring his neck last night.
I was told, point blank. I was told, point blank, by a guy in that locker room who matters that Jeff doesn’t care.
That is damning commentary of Green. Whoever the unnamed source of this talk is, and I’m assuming it’s one of the players, seems absolutely fed up with the forward. With the team struggling to find consistency this season, frustration is probably at an all-time high. Green’s poor play all season surely does not help. Unless he can turn it around sometime soon, the Grizzlies would be wise to find trade partners. Unfortunately for them, Green’s trade value is at an all-time low and it will be difficult to find suitors, let alone ones who will give Memphis something of value.
This will be something to monitor at least for the next month as the trade deadline approaches.
