Report: Gary Payton Being Considered By Bucks, Lakers As Assistant Coach
Gary Payton, formerly known as “The Glove” during his acclaimed tenure as point guard for the Seattle SuperSonics, is being considered as an assistant coach for both the Lakers and Bucks coaching staffs, as iterated by Gary Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times:
Gary Payton, a candidate for Bucks coaching staff, is also a candidate for Lakers staff under likely new head coach Byron Scott.

Payton is currently employed by Fox Sports 1 as an analyst, but clearly his services are wanted back on the floor. New Bucks head coach Jason Kidd came up in Oakland, California behind Payton as a player, and apparently is looking for Payton to bring an added element of point guard expertise to his young group in Milwaukee.
Byron Scott was just hired as the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, where Payton played for one season in 2003-2004. Perhaps Payton will soon join the latest crop of former players to hit the sideline, including Jason Kidd, Derek Fisher, and Steve Kerr.
