Report: Draymond Green Would Be Interested In Signing With Pistons This Summer
One facet of the rise of the Golden State Warriors this season has been Draymond Green. His skill set as a stretch forward and development as an overall energy player on both ends of the floor is a key pulse to this Warriors system.
As a restricted free agent this summer, Draymond Green will be officially on notice and possibly in line to sign a max contract somewhere. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Green already likes the idea of going home:
In a looming restricted free agency this summer, Golden State’s Draymond Green has a significant interest with pursuing an offer sheet with his hometown Detroit Pistons, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Green is a hometown kid to the fullest. He’s from Detroit and of course played for Tom Izzo at Michigan State for four years. The idea of signing a max contract to play for the Pistons, who at least made their first visible step toward progress post-Josh Smith, can’t be anything but appealing from his perspective.
For the record, I’m sure Draymond Green, at 24, would prefer to spend the rest of his young career gunning alongside the Splash Brothers. That’s where the Warriors will be left to decide whether or not to offer Green a max contract. The luxury tax would come into play, but Warriors owner Joe Lacob claims that it won’t be an issue.
There’s still so much more time for Green to market himself before it’s time for free agency. If he continues the rhythm and effort he plays with every night, especially in the postseason, he’ll likely find himself earning a max deal with Golden State, Detroit, or someone this summer.
