Free agent swingman Dorell Wright is meeting with the Miami Heat according to Yahoo’s Shams Charania. The small forward could sign a deal to join the Heat this weekend.
Wright has most recently played overseas in China but he has valuable skills that should be of great use for the Heat. The 30 year old was one of the premier three-and-D wings in the NBA in his prime and he may be able to replicate that success in Miami where he played for six seasons after being drafted in 2004. Wright’s last NBA home was with the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Heat have struggled with shooting this season, so having Wright can do nothing but improve that. Additionally, the 6’7″ forward is a prime candidate to play spot minutes as a stretch-four, especially in bench lineups alongside center Hassan Whiteside.
Wright could have been a huge addition for many teams looking to make deep playoff runs. It seems that his connections to Miami will eventually render him a member of the Heat once more. Wright could become a significant part of this team and any success they have in the postseason may be keyed by having the forward as depth on the wing.
