Miami Heat star F/C Chris Bosh has not touched a professional basketball court this season, yet rumors are starting to swirl about his future. Bosh, who has been dealing with blood clots, will almost certainly get waived by the Heat in the coming months and become a free agent. It has become abundantly clear that his career in Miami is all but over.
However it appears that Bosh will have at least one suitor once he is let go in South Beach. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Chicago Bulls will be at the front of the line to acquire Bosh’s services. However, he will be unable to play in the playoffs if the Bulls do make it. This from Stein:
More than one rival team has said they don’t expect Bosh to be waived by Miami until after March 1, thereby ensuring he’s not playoff-eligible for another team. The prospect of removing Bosh from the team’s payroll becomes an active option for the Heat after Feb. 9, which is the one-year anniversary of his last game for the club. If Bosh, who turns 33 in March, makes it back onto the floor next season, word is that the Chicago Bulls are already plotting a run and will be at the front of the line to try to sign him.
This is a puzzling situation for the Bulls. Even if Bosh is able to return and contribute, it most likely would be in a limited sense. He would also be a non-factor in the playoffs should Chicago get in. This means the ceiling for what Chris Bosh can do is limited to the regular season. If he comes back and plays well he could improve the Bulls seeding in the playoffs, but not much else. Being reunited with Dwyane Wade may be worth something to Bosh personally too.
It is good to see Bosh getting some attention from other teams despite his unceremonious ending in Miami. He has wavered back and forth between continuing his career and accepting retirement but, with potential suitors lurking, could be swayed back to playing.
