Baron Davis is ready for a comeback. The point guard has reportedly signed with the NBA D-League in hopes of earning a contract with an NBA team.
Davis last played for the New York Knicks in the 2011-12 season. Since then, Davis has been rumored to make a comeback multiple times. However, injury problems as well as age have held him back. However, the 36 year old seems intent on attempting to go down that path this time.
Teams are now able to sign players to 10 day contracts, which would be the likely route for Davis to make it back into the league. I have doubts about his ability to play much if at all at this point but Davis can be a great mentor for a team with young point guards. Davis can certainly contribute in that regard and that has some value. Of course, any team choosing to use a roster spot on him would want to be sure that he can contribute on the floor if injuries force their hand. In that respect, Davis’s choice to go through the D-League is a wise one. It will be interesting to see how he performs.
