Report: Andrew Bogut (Knee) Has Surgery, Out Indefinitely
The Golden State Warriors have this thing where at least one of their big men are hurt come playoff-time.
After having platelet rich plasma therapy on his right knee for some time, the Golden State Warriors announced on Thursday that center Andrew Bogut will be out indefinitely.
Via Monte Poole of CSNBayArea.com:
Prior to Tuesday’s game in Memphis, Andrew Bogut revealed to reporters he was diagnosed with chondromalacia, more commonly known as “runner’s knee.”
The Warriors team doctor and Bogut’s doctor from Australia approved the decision to rule him out indefinitely.
Bogut averages 7.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game for Golden State, but his numbers don’t fully explain his value. Just under 10 rebounds per game about says it in terms of his influence on the glass, but just his presence and activity on both sides of the basketball have helped anchor the incredibly efficient start for the Golden State Warriors.
Bogut works as a mobile screener but also a crucial facilitator for this team offensively. They’re able to hit him on the slip and let him make dribble-drive reads for extra passes on kick-outs or skip passes. He reads double teams well and keeps the ball active for Kerr’s offense. Losing Bogut won’t hurt their playoff hopes or anything, but their overall efficiency is likely to take a hit.
Expect Festus Ezeli, and of course, Marresse Speights to see increased minutes for Steve Kerr and crew. It might also speak to having David Lee start at the five when he’s able to return. In terms of passing the basketball as a big, Lee and Bogut are practically interchangeable.
