The Detroit Pistons are shaping up to be just how Stan Van Gundy wants them to be. With the star being the center and building the team around him. He’s got his star in Andre Drummond, he’s got some pieces in KCP, Stanley Johnson, Brandon Jennings, Reggie Jackson and others. They are looking good for the future.
Speaking of Reggie Jackson, he just so happens to be boys with Drummond, they’re so tight that Reggie says that Dre was a big reason why he signed with the Pistons and hopes that Drummond will sign for the long-term.
“He’s a big reason, reason 1A-1B, I went solely into staying here,” Jackson said. “He was always on me about making sure I signed. So I’m just trying to make sure everything’s going in the right direction to still be here and try and make a lot of memories.”
Drummond will become a restricted free agent once his current contract expires after the 2015-16 season. Both sides have said they want the other, with head coach Stan Van Gundy reiterating that to reporters again on Tuesday, and the Pistons hold a leg up having the option of matching any future offers.
“It’s a mature move either way,” Jackson said. “Whatever he decides is what he decides. I just would love to know that I have this guy with me during my tenure being here, wearing this red and blue.
“I just want what’s best for Andre. I want what’s best for his career. I definitely want him to be here and I want to make a lot of memories and a lot of highlights in the Palace and bring back this city.“
What’s best for Andre is that he should stay in Detroit. He the main man, if he goes anywhere else he will most likely have to share the top spot or get bumped down to 2.
This guy is a beast, and the Pistons nearly have it all, just got to wait a little bit longer.
