Ah Reggie Jackson. I can’t quite get a pulse on him. By that I mean, I don’t know if he’s legit or not. He’s alright, hasn’t really impressed much, I mean he’s had a couple games where I channel my inner Mark Jackson and say “Mama there goes that man”. But in an entire body of work, he’s all style, no substance.
At least when Eric Bledsoe stepped out of Chris Paul’s shadow, Bledsoe went to that next level almost immediately. Jackson hasn’t done that yet. Maybe it’s me not giving him enough time? We’ll definitely know this upcoming season. Jackson got a 5-Year $80 Million Deal from the Pistons and plans to play like he’s worth $100 Mil.
Pressure?
“Always,” the 25-year-old said Monday during Pistons media day at The Palace of Auburn Hills. “I’ve got to live up to trying to win a championship. Money is money. I worked just as hard when people said I didn’t have as much, and I’m going to work just as hard after.”
“I want to be the best,” he said. “And that’s my approach, each and every day. That’s what wakes me up and that’s what drives me. If I’m not the best or my peers aren’t telling me I’m the best, I’ve got to continue to go and earn that kind of respect.
“Somebody’s the best, so I have to go try and prove it.“
Well he certainly talks a good game, he’s got the mindset. It’s now up to him to play like he deserves a starting position. Because remember, Brandon Jennings is a starter at his best, if he comes back firing on all cylinders and Jackson isn’t getting it done. It’ll be OKC all over again.
