In 2021, Reggie Becton set the tone with the release of California. With the help of Shah Infinite, Chris Patrick, Ryahn and several others, the project tackled mental health, love, family dynamics and much more. Ultimately, it set the stage for a tour with Grace Weber, numerous festival appearances and co-signs from Apple Music and Spotify. As the PG County native approaches the one-year anniversary of his latest LP, he is seemingly prepared for the next one.
The new Reggie Becton continues with the release of “Sway.” Following the release of the guitar-laden “Call” featuring Nana, “Sway” heads in a bit of a different direction. The track kicks off with a piano piece that underlies Reggie Becton’s opening statements.
“Our love is explosive,” Reggie Becton sings.
“Send chills down to my spine/Breathe in, enjoy the high.”
Just past the 30-second mark, “Sway” goes to a new level of energy as Becton’s voice goes from soft and comforting to altered and emphatic.
“I like how you sway,” he sings as the infamous “Look At Ya” call back from Rick James and James Brown comes in.
Right after the hook, “Sway” takes another turn as Reggie Becton goes from rapper to singer.
“Can’t keep my name out your mouth. I’m like a dentist,” he raps.
Following the release of “Call” featuring Nana, “Sway” serves as a reminder that Reggie Becton has the ability to switch styles and sounds at any moment. The contrast between the two tracks leaves many listeners engaged and wondering what will come next. Until he returns with more music, check out “Sway” below.
