On Sunday, January 7, 2024, actress Reese Witherspoon confirmed a third season of Big Little Lies is in the works. Witherspoon told Variety that she and Nicole Kidman are “working on it,” but provided no further details.
“We are working on it,” she said while making her way to the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.
“Nic and I have been working on it a lot.”
Debuting in 2017, Big Little Lies was originally billed as a limited series on HBO. However, the network elected to give the show a second season in 2019. Both seasons proved to be immensely successful as the show collected eight Emmy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards and four Critics’ Choice Television Awards while building a fan base that is eager for more.
“Big Little Lies season three…I genuinely thought this day would never come. For three whole years, I would rewatch the show and come to terms with it being over forever, every time,” one fan tweeted.
“Scripted TV is in such dire straits. I’m actually excited for an extra season of big little lies we didn’t need,” another fan added.
