Redbox has launched an ad-supported streaming service called Free On Demand. The new streaming service will include dozens of titles that are “curated to the tastes of Redbox audiences.” Initial titles include The Illusionist, Lord of War, Trespass and Haywire and Maggie.
“Today’s audiences are fueling an unprecedented demand for premium quality on-demand content that is free with advertising. We expect to see continued growth in AVOD, making Free on Demand a significant addition to our free streaming platform,” Chris Yates of Redbox said.
The streaming service is currently available on a number of devices including Roku, Google Chromecast, Samsung and Android.
This streaming service is one of many steps that Redbox has taken to evolve. Most notably, the company has launched a free television service similar to Pluto or Xumo. It currently includes channels like Cheddar and Bloomberg TV.
