The game was very, very exciting as you would expect between these two playoff teams from last year.
Klay Thompson scored 29 points which included a go-ahead jumper with 8.7 seconds left, and the Golden State Warriors defeated the Trail Blazers, at Portland, 95-90 on Sunday night. Klay Thompson’s 29 points and Stephen Curry’s 21 points combined for 50 of Golden State’s 95 points in their win. Curry had 6 assists and 5 rebounds to go along with his scoring output.
The “Splash Brothers” also combined for 17 field goals, while the other 8 players who saw the floor for the Warriors had 19 in total. The win gives the Warriors 3 straight wins to open the season which is their best start since 1994-95 when they opened 5-0.
LaMarcus Aldridge had 26 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Blazers, who dropped to 1-2 to start the season. There is some chatter about Damian Lillard’s slow start after the first two games of the season. He had totaled just six first-half points and was 2-for-10 from the field in his first 2 games. Tonight he shot 4-18 with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
Golden State had a lead of as many as 12 points, but Portland closed the gap to 38-27 following Wesley Matthews’ 3-pointer and Thomas Robinson’s made jumper. The Blazers couldn’t pull in front, but kept it close and trailed by just 51-48 at the half. Then in the second half, Portland go to a 68-66 lead late in the third quarter on Will Barton’s 22-foot pull-up jumper and the game was tied at 68 going into the back-and-fourth final quarter of play.
Eventually though thanks to Thompson’s tough shot, the Warriors pulled off a very good road victory against an under-achieving Blazers team right now.
