RECAP: Spurs Win 94-92 Despite Late Surge From Hawks
The San Antonio Spurs survived valiant late antics from the Atlanta Hawks to hold on and win 94-92 against Atlanta at home on Wednesday night. Tony Parker and Tim Duncan led San Antonio with 17 points each. Manu Ginobili (12 points) hit two go-ahead free throws with 3.8 seconds remaining to give San Antonio a deciding two-point lead. Demarre Carroll and Paul Millsap led Atlanta with 17 points each.
San Antonio committed 19 turnovers which put them in difficult positions late in the game. Atlanta struggled from the field in the first half (39 points) and bounced back with a 53-point second half by scoring off of the Spurs’ turnovers and staying patient in their half court passing game. The Hawks outscored the Spurs in the final two quarters but were unable to get over the hump and maintain the only lead they earned late in the fourth quarter. Atlanta’s 14 steals and 26 assists contributed to the success they did have, which kept them in the game on both ends of the floor.
Mike Scott added 12 points off the bench for the Hawks. Al Horford had 10 points.
The Spurs are now 2-1 and the Hawks fall to 1-2.
