RECAP: Spurs Skid By Mavericks 101-100 In Season Opener
The defending champion San Antonio Spurs had their ring ceremony before tonight’s season opener against the Dallas Mavericks and won a close won against the Mavericks 101-100 on opening night of the 2014-15 NBA season. Tony Parker led the way with 23 points for San Antonio. Manu Ginobili scored 20 points off the bench.
The Spurs are now 5-0 on opening night following a championship ring ceremony.
Dallas had a 53-45 advantage at halftime, but the Spurs kept at it and responded with a 31-point third quarter that gave them an advantage in the second half. The Spurs made 14 three-point attempts out of 28 (50%), carrying over from their NBA Finals performance this past June.
San Antonio completed a 56-47 advantage in the second half. Both of these teams, more so the Mavericks, still find themselves raw and uncut on opening night, adjusting to the new atmosphere of a new season. But this Western Conference duel was entertaining and full of offense, as expected.
Monta Ellis led Dallas with 26 points followed by Dirk Nowitzki with 18. The Mavericks major free agent signing, Chandler Parsons, only managed 5 points on 2-for-10 shooting on the night.
These two teams won’t meet again until December 20.
