San Antonio Spurs pull off a very “Spursy” win as former member of the Spurs and NBATv’s analyst Brent Barry would say. A late fourth quarter 14-0 run by Spurs helped them defeat the Los Angeles Clippers 89-85 in Los Angeles. They missed 3 late free throws, 2 from Manu Ginobili and 1 from Tony Parker, but the Clippers couldn’t capitalize. The Clipppers didn’t hit a sinlge jumper for over 5 minutes to end the game.
San Antonio channeled their old-school mentality and played a gritty game against the Clippers. Kawhi Leonard had his coming out party this season as he dropped 26 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals, including 2 takeaways from phenomenal ball handlers Jamal Crawford and Chris Paul. I guess Kawhi’s eyes weren’t that bad afterall. Tim Duncan added 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Tony Parker had scored 9 of his 13 in the fourth quarter for the Spurs, who snapped a two-game skid while earning their first road win on the young season.
Chris Paul wouldn’t go down without a fight. He was one assist shy of a triple-double as he put up 12 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists and also took a last second lay-up past Tim Duncan to try and tie the game up. The ball bounced the wrong way, Blake Griffin rebounded and tried to call a time-out, but the Clippers had none. The technical foul ensued, but the late free throw issues from the Spurs continued as Tony Parker missed the technical. All ended well though for San Antonio as they still pulled off the victory in Los Angeles. Blake Griffin had 23 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists while still struggling with his flu. Deandre Jordan 6 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks on the night. Jamal Crawford struggled from the field as he got his second start on the season, but he scored 10 on 3-13 shooting, playing 38 minutes.
Both teams shot atrociously from the three point line shooting 7-41 combined between both teams. Horrendous.
