A big 3 at the end of the game for a man who hasn’t played in 1 game all season, until tonight and hasn’t made a shot at all this season, until tonight. PJ Tucker, suspended for the start of this season due to his “Super DUI” put the nail in the coffin to help the Phoenix Suns to a 112-106 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
It wasn’t without a valiant effort from former MVP Kobe Bryant. The 36 year old Bryant played 44 minutes, scored 39 points on 37 shots and grabbed 6 rebounds as well. Jeremy Lin had a solid game, scoring 18 points to go along with 3 assists. Jordan Hill contributed as much as he could dropping 15 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Carlos Boozer contributed 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
Gerald Green scored 26 points off the bench who combined with benchmate Isaiah Thomas, who had 22, to score 48 points combined off the bench. The Suns outscored the Lakers bench 53 to 17. Markieff Morris had 23 points and 10 rebounds. Goran Dragic had 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.
Bryant’s third 3-pointer of the night cut Phoenix’s lead to 106-104 late in the fourth, but Eric Bledsoe drove to the lane, got fouled and hit two free throws.
Then it was P.J. Tucker time. He made his season debut with the 3-pointer in front of the Lakers’ bench that sealed the Suns win with 19 seconds remaining in the game.
The Lakers are off to their worst start in the history of the Los Angeles Lakers at 0-5.
