It’s no secret that Empire is the best thing on television right now! With so much drama, juicy-ness, tom-foolery, and orginial music, it’s hard not to be entertained! This week’s episode was no different! Keep reading to find out what happened!!
Friendly Dinner – Cookie is tearing her bedroom up trying to find something to wear for when she meets Luscious. In the restaurant, Cookie tells Luscious that she’s nervous about the rose situation and Luscious tells her that the rose is not why he invited her! The two walk into a room where they see the rest of the family, including Anika. Luscious announces to the table that he and Anika are set to be married, and instantly, Cookie isn’t having it. As Anika is telling the proposal story, Cookie is at the end of the table snatching petals off a rose and throwing them around. As soon as Anika finishes, Cookie blurts out:
“So let me get this straight, last Wednesday you come to my house and give me a rose after you proposed to that bitch?”
Trying to cover up, Luscious says the rose was just a friendly reminder of where they were yesterday. Chile, Cookie gets up from her seat and opens her jacket talking about, “You think I came here dressed like this for a friendly get together?”
As she walks out, she informs Anika of what an ass really is! “Oh and Anika, THIS is an ass!”
The next day, Cookie is at Jamal’s place talking about his new single. As she leaves, his boo Michael stops her asking for advice on what to do because he thinks Jamal’s been changing. She tells him that fame changes people and Jamal won’t be having a lot of time left for him. Over at the Lyon mansion, Luscious is eating breakfast when his security camera shows that the cop from Bunkie’s investigation was snooping in his trash. He tells Vernon that he wants the cop off the force, but already knowing something’s up, Vernon asks Luscious did he kill Bunkie and Luscious comes clean.
Out Comes The Truth – Vernon busts in Andre’s office and hangs up his conference call and puts that boy in a choke hold. He asks Andre did he know the truth about Bunkie’s death and Andre denies it. Vernon tells Andre that he’s supposed to have his [Vernon] back [because remember, the both of them are trying to run Empire] and Andre says “I cover for him, even when I don’t know what I’m covering!” During an A&R meeting, Anika informs Andre that Elle Dallas will be dropped from the label. Cookie is against it because she knows what kind of artist Elle is and knows that she can get back on the charts. Cookie meets up with Luscious at the nightclub so she can meet Elle Dallas. During their meeting, Luscious tells Elle that Cookie is going to manage her, and Elle isn’t feeling it because Cookie not the’A-lister’ that she’s used to working with. The next day, Cookie visits Elle at a rat tail motel she’s staying in. Inside, she finds a junkie and kicks him out and tells Elle that she has to get clean before she ruins herself.
Elle begs for her drugs back but Cookie flushes them down the toilet and embraces Elle as she cries her pain away.
Get Your Money – Later that night, Cookie, Jamal, Michael and Portia are at the club to premiere Jamal’s song. Jamal tells Cookie to stay out of his relationship with Michael but she reminds him that she’s not Michaels mother, she’s his mother and he needs to find someone that can bring more to the table than just food. Cookie signals for the DJ to play Jamal’s song and as he does, everyone rushes to the dance floor. Meanwhile, Michael is across the room looking like a sad puppy who lost his favorite bone. SMH. Cookie goes to talk to Vince Boyd, a professional football player and gets him to tweet about Jamal’s song to boost the promo!
Meanwhile, Luscious is interviewing Malcom DeVoe to be his new head of security [Derek Luke]. During their interview, he shows Luscious the holes in his security at Empire and at his home. Impressed, Luscious hires him. Back at the club, Hakeem shows up drunk begging Jamal to help him write a hook for his new song. Jamal, fed up tells Hakeem he doesn’t care anymore:
“I don’t care! How long did you think I would just sit around and let you disrespect our mother, when all she’s trying to do is help you grow up? How long did you think that I would just let you use me? I don’t care!”
Vernon has been trying to get Luscious clear of Bunkie’s murder so he hires a man to take the fall. The man agrees to take the fall as long as his family gets paid, which Vernon agrees to.
Do Or Die – Jamal and Michael are at their apartment when Michael learns via Twitter that Jamal has an interview with Sway. He’s mad because the two planned to get a way for the weekend and Jamal didn’t tell him. Just like Cookie said, their relationship is slowly falling apart. Cookie goes to the studio to check on Elle and she sounds horrible. Portia is on the elevator when Anika steps in. Anika tries to get into Portia’s head and tells her that she can find a way to get Portia paid more. Let’s hope Portia doesn’t get played like a fool into Anika’s twisted plan. Back in the studio, Cookie tells Elle about herself, telling her that she’s hiding behind who she was and not who she is. Cookie tells her to take everything off and in an India Arie-esque moment, Elle takes off her fur, jewelry, hair extensions, fake eyelashes and lipstick and kills her next take.
Jamal is at his performance/interview with Sway and during his interview, Sway asks him how does his lady feel about his sudden success. Jamal looks at Cookie for help and she gives him that ‘you’re on your own with this one look!’ In the end, Jamal denies having a lady and says that he’s just focused on the music. Meanwhile, Michael has been watching the interview from home and his heart is just broken when he hears what Jamal said.
Olivia – The next day, as Cookie is walking into Empire, the security guard asks her for her badge and Cookie’s like ‘my badge? Do you know who I am?!” As she’s about to give him the business, Malcolm comes through and introduces himself to Cookie. Tryna put her mack down, Cookie softens up and leaves that man wanting more! HA! Let me find out! Later on, as the Lyon clan and Anika are getting ready to leave, a young woman named Olivia is at the front desk telling Malcolm to let her through because she’s a relative of the family. Malcolm asks Luscious does he know her and immediately his face drops. Come to find out, Olivia is there for Jamal. Olivia introduces Jamal to the little girl that is with her and says, “She wanted to meet her daddy!”
Honestly, this episode….
- Not really sure Vernon can be trusted. He and Bunkie were close and he was too calm after Luscious confessed to killing him.
- Courtney Love [is in essence…playing herself in this episode]
- I really hate that people always throw Cookie’s prison life in her face. Bottom line is had it not been for Cookie, there would be no Empire, and if there was an Empire, it probably wouldn’t be what it is now!

- Andre has deep rooted issues that needs to be addressed and his evil ass wife isn’t helping him!
- I really need Cookie and Malcolm to become a thing because she truly needs it and deserves it!
- Raven – Symone – [Can we just mention that Raven-Symone used to be ‘Olivia’ on the Cosby Show and now she’s come full circle as a money hungry baby mama named Olivia!]
