RECAP: Memphis Hangs On For 100-99 Thriller In Oklahoma City; MEM 3-2
The Memphis Grizzlies played the Oklahoma City Thunder to an NBA Playoffs record fourth-straight overtime in Game 5, and despite giving up a 20-point lead in the second half the Grizzlies gutted out a 100-99 victory right down to the wire. Serge Ibaka’s tip-in was waved off at the buzzer for Oklahoma City. Mike Miller was Memphis’ offensive catalyst, finishing with a team-high 21 points in 30 minutes off the bench including 5-for-8 shooting from the three-point line.
The Grizzlies started the game with a 10-2 lead and stayed true to the defensive principles that has given them success in this series thus far. The telling stats in this series have been Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook’s shooting struggles as a result of the testy Memphis defense. While Westbrook finished with a triple-double (30 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists) he and Durant (24 points, 8 rebounds) combined for 20-55 shooting from the field and 10 of the Thunder’s 17 turnovers.
Zach Randolph finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds for Memphis. Mike Conley, Jr. had 17 points.
Game 6 of this series will be in Memphis on Thursday at 8 PM EST on TNT.
