Marc Gasol scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the Grizzlies’ 93-81 win over the Pelicans. Zach Randolph had 15 points, 11 rebounds and Tayshaun Prince added a strangely highly for prince 14 points to go along with 5 rebounds as the Memphis Grizzlies extended their home-winning streak to a franchise record 16 straight and they are also off to a franchise-best 4-0 start.
The Grizzlies as a team had three double-doubles. Randolph has a double-double in each of the team’s four games along with Gasol’s double-double and Tony Allen had 12 points, 11 rebounds to cap off the trio of double-doubles. All 5 Grizzlies starters were in double figures scoring.
Tyreke Evans led the Pelicans with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Anthony Davis was on a streak of putting up over 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks but it ended on this night as Davis was in foul trouble. Davis had 14 points, 8 rebounds and 1 block on the night. New Orleans shot only 34 percent from the field.
New Orleans shot 28 % in the opening half and the bench went 2-for-12 to compare to Memphis who shot 41%.
The Grizzlies, who led by as much as 10 points in the first half, struggled from the floor in the third quarter. Memphis was 7-of-23 in the third and allowed the Pelicans to grab their first lead early in the third. Memphis pulled away in the fourth quarter behind bench production from Vince Carter and then Prince. Carter hit a smooth turnaround jumper gave the Grizzlies a 71-66 lead midway through the fourth quarter and two minutes later Prince scored back-to-back baskets including a fast break dunk. The in the final minute of the game the defensive stopper, Allen, sunk 2 free throws to put them up 14 and the Grizzlies never looked back.
