The New York Knicks started off hot in the first quarter, they lead early 12-2 but then after that. Well. It was all Chicago as they led by as much as 35.
Pau Gasol had 21 points and 11 rebounds in his Bulls debut, Derrick Rose dropped 13 points after missing a majority of the last two seasons and possible Sixth-man of the year candidate, Taj Gibson, finished with 22 points to lead all Bulls.
The former MVP, Rose, took only seven shots and dished out five assists in 21 minutes played, Doug “Dougie McBuckets” McDermott had 12 points and 5 rebounds in his Chicago debut.
Shane Larkin made his first career start for the Knicks as expected starter Jose Calderon was a late scratch. Carmelo Anthony had 14 points for the Knicks. That led all Knicks in scoring. Everyone. Amar’e Stoudemire had 12 and that was the second leading scorer for the Knicks. Melo and Stoudemire were the only 2 Knicks in double figures all night. Carmelo Anthony won’t have it any easier in the second part of their season-opening, back-to-back. They visit the Cavaliers, the other Eastern Conference favorite, on Thursday in the first game since LeBron James returned to Cleveland. Talk about drama.
The Knicks, shot 36.5% from the field under their new triangle offense led by Coach Derek Fisher and President Phil Jackson. Derek Fisher’s coaching debut was spoiled by the men from the ‘Windy City’ and they did all this without their best perimeter defender, Jimmy Butler.
