Darren Collison scored a game-high 21 points in the Kings’ 110-105 win over the Nuggets. Collison’s scoring output included 3 free throws in the final 16.2 seconds, and the Sacramento Kings held off the Nuggets. This game was very exciting. DeMarcus Cousins added 19 points with 5 rebounds, Rudy Gay and Carl Landry, with Landry coming off the bench, scored 14 each and Reggie Evans grabbed 14 rebounds to go along with 2 points. The Kings start the season 3-1 for the first time since 2010-11. Collison secured the win by hitting two free throws with 8.7 seconds remaining.
The Nuggets had 7 players in double figures, led by Arron Afflalo and JaVale McGee with 16 points each. McGee is still on restricted minutes after coming back from an injury and came off the bench. Danilo Gallinari as well remains on a minutes restriction and played a little over 14 minutes. He was 0-6 from the field. Wilson Chandler scored 12 of his 14 in the fourth quarter and Chandler pulled the Nuggets close when he was fouled by Omri Casspi on a 3-point attempt with 25.6 seconds left. Chandler made all three to make it 105-103 but the Nuggets wouldn’t get any closer as Rudy Gay closed the game with 2 free throws.
There were a combined 63 fouls resulting in 80 free throws attempted. 80! Sacramento and Denver were frozen to start the game as they show a combined 6 of 23 from the field.
