The next chapter of Top Dawg Entertainment’s story has begun. Ray Vaughn has entered the label’s plans by releasing videos for “Potential” and “Mannequin.” Meanwhile, Doechii is working her latest single, “Persuasive,” and picked up a SZA feature along the way. Not to be forgotten, Zacari recently delivered the “Bliss” video with Isaiah Rashad. Adding to the movement, Reason has dropped “Is What It Is” and returned with “Barely Miss.” One month after debuting the single on COLORS, the California native returned with the official video.
Skillfully shot by Jazz Carter and Carlos Acosta, the dark visual centers around a child who finds himself surrounded by violence, adult activities, money and many of the things that Reason witnessed growing up. As Carter and Acosta take viewers on this visual journey, Reason paints a picture of what it was like to grow up in Del Amo and how good it feels to arrive at this position in life.
“With them politics, mm/School of hard knocks, mm, we got scholarships, mm/Stories I forgot, mm, wouldn’t let me rewind, mm/Melly caught him three, mm, Donut, he got five, mm/Retaliation coordinated like electric slide, mm/Coroner get duckets, he been workin’ overtime, mm,” he raps.
“Blame it on a n*gga pigment, you forget what history went with it/Left a sittin’ there with no way to get it, been this way since infants/Red line lead to red rags, sh*t been bloodbath/N*ggas scammin’, tryna build a future for they son to have.”
“Barely Miss” is the latest single from what is expected to be Reason’s latest project. Unfortunately, there is no release date for Reason’s next LP. For now, fans can enjoy the “Barely Miss” video below.
