Ray Allen’s time with the Boston Celtics did not end well. Despite being an integral part of a championship team, Allen left the team for metaphorically greener pastures, joining LeBron James and the Miami Heat. Allen’s decision left a bitter taste in Celtics fans’ mouths and the future Hall of Famer has been disjointed from his former teammates ever since.
Nevertheless, the Celtics are still a major part of Allen’s life. That’s why after the recent trade that sent Isaiah Thomas to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Kyrie Irving, Allen took to Instagram for an honest reaction (screenshots via Pro Basketball Talk):
Allen was the subject of plenty of trade rumors, himself, so he has some experience with how the Celtics handle these things. Moreover, after seeing the reaction from some Celtics fans burning IT’s jersey and comparing it to the reception he’s received, it’s no surprise that Allen is siding with Thomas here.
Regardless, Thomas’ trade may end up being a great transaction for all parties involved. After all, the point guard will now team up with LeBron James and a Cleveland Cavaliers team that has been to three straight NBA Finals.
