Wallace will have surgery in his left foot and will take no less than 8 weeks to recover. In 20 games with the Knicks, Wallace averaged 7.2 points and 4.2 rebounds.
Wallace came back after two years of retirement to play for the Knicks, mostly because of the good relationship he had with the Knicks current coach, Mike Woodson, who also coached “Sheed” in 2004 when Wallace won an nba title in 2004 with the Detroit Pistons.
The additions to the frontcourt that the Knicks made this season haven’t gone as expected. Wallace will be out 2 months, Marcus Camby has hardly played and Kurt Thomas hasn’t been very productive either. That leaves the team with Amare Stoudemire, who’s been limited to 30 minutes a night as a precaution, and the newly signed Kenyon Martin, who’s expected to continue with the team for the rest of the season now that Wallace will not play.
