It’s rare that you see a player in a power College get dismissed outright. Well Mike Krzyzewski and the Duke Blue Devils had to do just that on January 29th by dismissing Rasheed Sulaimon.
Now Coach K and Duke never exactly released the reason why they dismissed Rasheed. They said he
“repeatedly struggled to meet the necessary obligations.“
Which is stupidly blunt.
But now there might be a shed of light as to why Duke dismissed the Junior guard. According to ESPN.com, Rasheed Sulaimon has been accused of two sexual assaults.
According to the report, published Monday in the Chronicle, the Duke student newspaper, Sulaimon was accused of sexual assault by two women, who told others of the incidents but did not file complaints with Duke’s Office of Student Conduct or the Durham Police Department.
In all instances, Krzyzewski responded: “I don’t have any comment on that.”
The university cited student confidentiality law in a statement issued Monday.
“Duke is prohibited by law from disclosing publicly any particular student’s confidential education records,” the statement said. “The university takes immediate action when it receives reports of alleged sexual misconduct or other violations of the student conduct code, which includes investigation and referral to the Student Conduct Office for review in a timely manner as required by law. Duke also takes every possible action internally to ensure anyone who raises a complaint of sexual misconduct is supported and the campus community is safe.“
Now Duke’s athletic department and Krzyzewski actually knew of this 10 months before the dismissal. They talked about it for months and nothing happened.
So I’ll ask the obvious question. Why did it take nearly a year for action to be taken?
