The Toronto Raptors have been signing summer league players that were impressive in their action for the Raptors. They signed Delon Wright, their 20th overall selection, Normal Powell, their 46th pick. They added Ronald Roberts and Michale Kyser to total up their 15 roster spots for training camp. According to the Raptors Press Release:
The Toronto Raptors signed forward Roberts to a multi-year contract on Tuesday.
Roberts recently participated with the Raptors’ entry in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, where he averaged 10.3 points, 9.5 rebounds and 23.5 minutes in four games. He posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the opener July 10 against Sacramento.
The Raptors only retained Patrick Patterson & Jonas Valanciunas from their big-men of last year’s disappointing Playoff run. Amir Johnson, Chuck Hayes, & Tyler Hansborough are gone. With Roberts, the Raptors have officially replaced all 3 of their big-men. With additions of Bismack Biyombo, Luis Scola and Roberts, the Raptors went for a defensive approach. The Raptors seem to be slowly working in the background to get a deal to find their new starting Power Forward. All signs lead to this. Taj Gibson has been mentioned as someone who is bound to be traded and the Raptors are favorites.
The biggest question for the Raptors is their defense and the addition of Ronald Roberts were definitely help their case. He seems to be a double-double machine and the Raptors could use a guy who can rebound. It’s uncertain if he will get any minutes, but it’s for sure that he will be able to play in their D-league affiliate Toronto 905.
