Hip-Hop mourns the death of Young Greatness, popular New Orleans rapper tragically gunned down in his hometown early Monday (October 29) morning. The shooting occurred just after 1:30 A.M., outside of a Waffle House in the 2900 block of Elysian Field Avenue. according to a report from WDSU. As the New Orleans Police Department reports, Young Greatness was found face down, with one fatal gunshot to this back.
Born Theodore Jones, Young Greatness’ steady grind in Hip Hop was admirable. Born in New Orleans, Jones relocated to Houston following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. His breakout moment came in 2005 with his single “Moolah” breaking into the Billboard Hot 100 chart and reaching #9 on Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop chart. During a 2016 interview with HipHopDX, Jones shared how he created instant magic on the Jazze Pha beat.
“I really didn’t have a chance to listen to the rest of the beats because once I heard that one, it’s a single. Let me jump on that ASAP. I put my one-two on it and in 10 minutes, that was a wrap.”
The rapper’s tragic death continues the traumatic 2018 trend of death in Hip Hop. Many fellow artists mourned the murder of Young Greatness via social media.
