Left Tackle Jake Long will now join the growing list of free agents. Long was the number one overall pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2008 who never panned out to his full potential. The Dolphins decided to pass on quarterback Matt Ryan and select Long instead. A decision that has come back to haunt the franchise.
Many year later Jake Long found a home in St. Louis as a mediocre tackle. His time with the Rams is now officially over after the team opted to release him. The Rams also cut starting center Scott Wells in addition to Long. The moves will give the team $12 million in much needed cap space. Long and Wells now join the likes of Jacob Bell, and Jason Brown being high priced free agents that failed to live up to expectations.
Only Greg Robinson and Roger Saffold can be safe bets to be week one starters for the team. Both players have guard and tackle experience so it will be interesting to see how the Rams attack the needs along the offensive line. Former Raiders Center Stephen Wisnewski is rumored to be a potential target.
