Consider it a miracle that Rajon Rondo is even in this position. He was supposed to be out 8-10 weeks. But lo and behold. Just 5 weeks later. Rajon Rondo is pondering on playing opening night. According to Yahoo! Sports he is Non-committal about whether he’ll suit up for opening night.
Rondo says he will decide after he takes a pregame nap on Wednesday afternoon. The Celtics point guard has been out since slipping in the shower and breaking a bone in his hand near the start of training camp. He also missed 40 games last season recovering from reconstructive knee surgery.
Rondo joked on Monday that his health was back to 79 percent. On Tuesday he told coach Brad Stevens he was up to 83 percent.
Stevens says he’s not messing around with percentages: If Rondo is ready to play, he will play.
I’m surprised Rondo is being so chilled about this. Does he notice that his job is in jeopardy?
The Celtics have virtually moved on from the good old days. Allen, Garnett and Pierce has gone. Rajon Rondo is the only player from that great team still in the green and white. Rondo isn’t even 30 but in Boston with young talent such as Marcus Smart and James Young, Rondo might as well be classed as a senior citizen.
