Rajon Rondo is a conductor. He thrives with talent around him. Put him with good players, he’ll make them even better. He isn’t what he once was, but he’s still one of basketball’s best passers. Rondo has played with some tremendous talent but thinks that Davis and Cousins might be the best yet, he tells William Guillory of the Times-Picayune:
“It’s early to say, but my expectations are it’ll probably be the easiest I’ve ever had it as far as (playing) with a dynamic duo,” Rondo said. “Jrue (Holiday) can go get 40 (points) as well, so my job is a lot easier. I just got to make sure I manage getting guys the ball in the right spot and its up to them to play unselfish and do the rest.”
Davis and Cousins have an argument, but Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett would like a word.
Rondo also said that he believes that Davis and Cousins can be the most dominant big man duo – wait for it – ever:
“They’ve only had a couple months together, I don’t count pretty much last year even though they did play together,” Rondo said. “I think those two guys are capable of being two of the best bigs to ever play this game as a duo. That’s pretty high expectations but they have the talent to do it.”
Those are some lofty expectations, Rajon. I guess time will tell.
Rondo joined New Orleans on a one-year deal at the minimum this offseason after having an up-and-down 2016-17 season with the Chicago Bulls.
