R. Kelly adds new sexually-based offenses to his long list of state and federal charges with new charges in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The singer remains in the custody of law enforcement following over 15 charges brought against him in both Chicago and New York. Variety reports, the new allegations include two counts of engaging in prostitution with an individual under 18 years old and, offering to hire for sexual purposes a person under 18.
State’s Attorney Mike Freeman claims the victim who was under 18 but at least 16 at the time of the incident which involved dancing and sexual contact. According to Variety, Paul Blume at Fox 9 reports the alleged victim received a $200 payment to take off her clothes and engage in sexual activity with the R&B singer.
Freeman believes the Minneapolis victim deserves their day in court, despite the seemingly never-ending charges across the country against R. Kelly, ensuring his quest includes a fair fight for justice.
Before we can charge a case, we have to have sufficient evidence that a crime has been committed. But we listen to victims and we believe she deserves her day in court.” says Freeman.
Steve Greenberg, the lawyer for R. Kelly exclaimed: “give me a break” in a Tweet regarding the new charges, calling them absurd.
