Former hairstylist of R. Kelly comes forward with claims of sexual abuse. The beautician details alleged assault occurring while working for the R&B singer.
During an interview with Jericka Duncan on CBS This Morning, Lanita Carter makes her name public as one of R. Kelly’s anonymous accusers. The hairstylist staffed by R. Kelly to braid his hair cries through the conversation, telling how finally coming forward releases many emotions.
“I’ve been carryin’ this since 2003. I have had to sit on a public bus and watch public conversation: ‘Did you hear about what they did with R. Kelly? They need to leave that man alone.’ And I can’t stand up for myself.” says Carter to Duncan during the emotional interview.
She continues, “Today — today I say: no more. You can talk about me. You can not like what I’m sayin’ about your favorite singer. But this is my life… This is my truth. This is what I have. If I die tomorrow, I know that I told the truth. I know that I want to be the best person I could be.”
Her claims against R. Kelly include the singer allegedly attempting to force Carter to participate in oral sex. Upon refusal, R. Kelly then allegedly masturbated, ejaculating on her top and spitting in her face. Carter submitted the shirt for DNA evidence against R. Kelly and Cook County prosecutors confirm a match to R. Kelly’s genetic profile.
R. Kelly remains out on bond, facing 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, including underage victims. The singer remains firmly rooted in claims on innocence.
