Superstar Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans can use all the help they can get. The Pels got off to a rough start this season, as Davis just didn’t have the support needed to come out with wins, even though his game was on a superhuman level. However, as of late, New Orleans has begun to start picking up more W’s, mostly due to the returns of talented guards Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans from injuries. However, the Pelicans were still expecting the return of sharpshooting veteran Quincy Pondexter who was recovering from left knee surgery dating back to last season. Today, though, Pondexter underwent surgery on the same knee that had previously caused issues for him in the past year. Following from the New Orleans Pelicans twitter account:

Pondexter hasn’t been a part of any live game action since the 2014-15 season when he put up per game averages of 9.0 points to go with 3.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists. His return this year was expected to bring a marksman presence to the Pelicans second unit from the wing spot. This latest setback puts the future of Pondexter in major jeopardy as undergoing multiple surgeries on the same knee has been responsible for ending the careers of numerous NBA players over the years.
The Pelicans currently sit at 14-22, a record good for the 11th seed in the crowded Western Conference. The return of Pondexter would have surely boosted their bench production but him being without a timetable to return, the Pelicans may have to look elsewhere for additional scoring to pair with the production of Davis. New Orleans had already been rumored to be looking to make a move in the trade market, and with this latest news regarding Pondexter, the Pelicans are certainly a team to keep your eye on as the February deadline rapidly approaches.
