Standout Houston Cougar and former five-star prospect Quentin Grimes has officially declared for the 2021 NBA Draft. The move comes as no surprise as the guard begins his journey to the NBA after three years in college. Grimes almost left for the NBA after his freshman year with the Kansas Jayhawks but transferred to Houston instead. His sophomore year also had him debate a jump to the NBA, but COVID-19 made things messy. The time has finally come for Grimes to head to the NBA.

I just love the University, the city of Houston, the support. I just want to thank them so much for the love they showed me when I decided..” pic.twitter.com/mMKONBVxTd

The former Kansas Jayhawk turned Houston Cougar has been waiting a lifetime to join the NBA and soon the time will come where he has landed on an NBA roster. Guards that can score like Grimes always seem to find a role at the NBA level. Grimes averaged 17.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game in his junior year. He also shot well at a rate of 40.6 percent paired with a three-point percentage of 40.3 percent. Upperclassmen prospects typically fall some in the NBA Draft, but Grimes should find himself drafted because of his talent.
Head Coach Kelvin Sampson had the following to say about the decision: “We are really proud of Quentin and the improvement he has made while he has been in our program. This is the right step for Quentin, and we will support him throughout the process, from Day One, Quentin has worked hard, and he has been a huge part of the success in our program during the last two years. We wish him all the best going forward and will do everything in our power to help him succeed at the next level.”
