Demonstrators in the nation’s capital took down a statue honoring Confederate soldier named Albert Pike on Friday night. Pike is the only Confederate soldier to have received a statue in the city and is known for having contributed heavily to the Freemasons.
As news of the statue’s removal traveled, President Donald Trump took shots at the crowd and Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser.
“The D.C. Police are not doing their job as they watch a statue be ripped down & burn,” Trump tweeted.

“These people should be immediately arrested. A disgrace to our Country!” he added.
This demonstration comes on the eve of Trump’s first rally in the COVID-19 era. The President will head down to Tulsa, Oklahoma to deliver remarks in front of supporters. The rally was originally scheduled for Juneteenth, but was ultimately rescheduled after public backlash.
Meanwhile, Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser continues her push to increase public funding for the city’s police force by $45 million. The proposal has been met with incredible backlash, but she appears undeterred.
The two political figures will continue to go head-to-head as demonstrations near the one month mark in the nation’s capital.
