Shawn Carter, better known as Jay-Z, dropped his 13th studio album, 4:44 on Friday (June 30). The highly-anticipated album comes after the birth of him and wife Beyoncé’s twins. Many who have heard 4:44 say that it is the Brooklyn rapper’s follow up to Bey’s Lemonade. Following it’s Friday release, the album received much praise on the production of it.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, 4:44 producer No I.D. gives insight on the album. Throughout the interview, he talks about the songwriting process as well as many classic albums that inspired 4:44. The producer said, “Sometimes these classics, the continuity is what makes them classic, and then you have these examples of reaching for the single or the radio record.” I.D. then was asked what albums inspired 4:44, and the producer named a few classics. The one’s he pointed out were What’s Going On, Confessions, The Blueprint, Illmatic, and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
