Prime Video has given the green light to a new series called The Greatest. Led by Alex Cross series creator Ben Watkins and executive produced by Lonnie Ali, the series will depict the life and legacy of the legendary boxing champion, philanthropist and activist Muhammad Ali.
“The amazing victories and defeats that made Ali a legend, both in and out of the ring, have been well documented and while those landmark events will live in The Greatest, the heartbeat of the story is fueled by all the moments that took place outside of the spotlight,” the series description reads.
“The world remembers an icon, but The Greatest is about a man, a husband, a father, a brother and a son.”
Actor Jaalen Best will star as Ali. The young actor is best known for his recurring role as Ryan Craig in All American: Homecoming. He also appeared in American Horror Stories, Magnum P.I. and the short film, Juice.
“What a complete honor and privilege it is to be playing a hero of mine, and a hero to many. A deep sincere of gratitude and responsibility as I step into the shoes of a true icon,” Best wrote on Instagram.
“Thank you to Ali’s family for their trust, and immense gratitude to the incredible producers, writers, and everyone involved in making this happen. Can’t wait to bring this story to life and share it with the world. Let’s make history!”
Additional casting details and production timelines will be available at a later date.
